Thuthuzela Care Centres Visibility Event

Visibility Awareness Event

The TCCs Visibility Awareness Event, held in Welkom, brought together over 120 stakeholders, partners, and community members for a day of focused engagement on strengthening the national response to gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

The event served as a platform to align efforts across the GBVF prevention and response value chain. Representatives from the Departments of Health, Justice, Social Development, Protection Services, community forums, and other local structures participated in robust discussions aimed at enhancing coordination and survivor-centred service delivery.

A key theme that emerged was the urgent need for integrated, multi-sectoral collaboration. Participants acknowledged that no single organisation or sector can address GBVF in isolation. The event reinforced the importance of breaking down silos and working collectively to build safer, more resilient communities.

Visibility was also a central focus. Speakers highlighted how increased awareness of TCC services can improve access and uptake. Harmony Gold’s signage initiative was spotlighted as a practical example of how visibility tools can be scaled to reach more survivors through strategic placement in high-traffic community areas.

Panel discussions explored how improved visibility, stronger partnerships, and survivor-focused interventions can contribute to higher conviction rates, greater trust in justice systems, and more compassionate, accessible support services.

The Welkom event marks the beginning of a renewed, collaborative effort to strengthen the TCC model and expand its reach. It laid the groundwork for ongoing dialogue, shared accountability, and coordinated action in the fight against GBVF.
